After Joe had nursed Pip back to health, he decides to visit Joe and Biddy again, also deciding to finally propose and confess his love to Biddy, whom he would’ve most likely married had Miss Havisham and Estella not entered their lives. However, he is greeted with a surprise – it is Joe and Biddy’s wedding day! Reacting to the startling revelation with, instead of anger or grief, but with happiness.
Deciding that Joe’s kindness would not go unpaid (literally), Pip goes abroad to work with Herbert in his business to pay back Joe. He would spend 11 years away from home, working with a dedication he has never matched in his life. Returning when he has reached his goal, he decides to check up on Joe and Biddy, and discovers that the two had a child whom they affectionately named Pip.
Throughout his life, Pip has gone through many changes in both his personality and mentality. Rising from a “commoner” into a gentleman literally overnight, he has experienced numerous things that most people would be lucky to see in two lifetimes. His Great Expectations have led to many great changes. At this point in Pip’s life, he is now at the point where he can reflect on his life and say what he has done right, what he has done wrong, and why it happened.
Essentially, he is writing the book right now.
