NEW ARRIVAL IN STREETS OF LONDON

With Pip finally arriving in the bustling city of London, he gets to meet his new guardians firsthand. Mr. Jaggers and Wemmick are to take care of his monetary issues and provide him the necessary resources to become a gentlemen. However, a blast from the past soon catches up with Pip – as Pip meets Herbert Pocket, he gets a strange feeling that he’s fought that man before… the pale young gentlemen!

The two quickly form a close friendship, with Herbert taking Pip under his wing and, first and foremost, teaching him dining etiquette while explaining all he knew about Estella and Miss Havisham. Realizing that she was left at the alter on her wedding day, Miss Havisham ordered all her clocks to be stopped, at 20 minutes to 9, and essentially stopped time in her life. Estella’s presence has seemingly been eternal, for neither one of them can remember a time without Estella.

With all his questions at least partially answered, his money issues gone, and a new friend met, Pip has seemingly hit the jackpot. In a period and time like his, opportunities such as this one aren’t given away too freely. As such, it is here that Pip begins to believe he has potential and that it is smooth sailing from there on out. Being a gentlemen, he believed, was little more than planning to better your life; be it through food, activity, or marriage, and that is exactly what Pip had on his mind.
